Investing in real estate in Highlands, North Carolina has always been a great place to put your money, and todays troubled times are no exception.

We have said for years that there are three major markets for investing, the Dow, NASDAQ and Highlands. Historically Highlands has held up better than the Dow or the NASDAQ - not nearly the wide swings of the past few years. Of course, real estate is in a slump nationwide and Highlands has not been immune to this downturn, but those who bought homes, land and commercial prior to four or five years ago are still realizing a good profit.

Highlands is what it always has been, and that is a second/third home getaway to escape the heat of southern summers. Located at an average elevation of 4110 feet above sea level, we are on the southernmost escarpment of the Blue Ridge chain. We are also the most accessible, highest elevation community east of the Mississippi - only 2 hours away from Atlanta, 8 hours from central Florida and twelve from south Florida.

Real estate has been on an upward swing for the past couple of months in Highlands and hopefully it will continue at least thru our “normal” season which winds down after the fall leaves. Homes and land are starting to move as folks gain a more optimistic feeling about the near future. Let’s hope their optimism is well founded!
