All the heavy rains lately have been a blessing for the flora and fauna, but the most visible showing is our waterfalls.
Waterfalls are one of the great - and free - attractions of the mountains of western North Carolina, especially in the Cashiers and Highlands area.
Waterfalls of different sizes occur on every stream, creek and river in the area.
The larger, more scenic have a trail to them, or a road close by for access such as Bridal Veil Falls pictured here.
Bridal Veil is located on Highway 64 just west of Highlands. In fact 64 previously ran behind the falls, and you can still drive behind the falls, but some of the most beautiful and soul stirring are off the beaten path.
Many of the waterfalls in Western North Carolina are on Forest Service property, or close to a road so access is not a problem, but when crossing private land remember to ask permission first.
