Lots & Acreage

Buying and owning property in the mountains of Western North Carolina can be a very rewarding and profitable investment.
Waste treatment facilities are limited. The vast majority of homes inside the city limits, and virtually all of those outside the city, use septic systems. The Town of Highlands has for past number of years, encouraged new and current homeowners to tap on to town sewer where available. The village of Cashiers - currently unincorporated - has no public amenities.
When buying a lot or land, make sure it will support a system based on the number of bedrooms you desire. All applications for septic through the County Health Department, can be handled by your agent at Preferred Properties of Highlands.
Zoning laws, Architectural Guidelines, and information of interest to new lot and home owners inside the city limits of Highlands can be accessed by visiting the Town of Highlands web site. The Town of Highlands has minimum lot size regulations for newly platted lots, and there are “built-upon” restrictions imposed within the city limits and within the town watershed. Your agent at Preferred Properties is able to easily explain the requirements implemented by the town and county.
Detailed questions about the purchase or sale of real estate in North Carolina can be answered by calling an agent at Preferred Properties, or by accessing the North Carolina Real Estate Commission web pages.
Lots and Land in the area can range from a small lot in a subdivision to large tracts of timberland.
